As the Nazis engage their Battle of the Bulge campaign, in late 1944, an American tank unit gets trapped behind enemy lines. The Allies' Operation Ardennes Fury is about to commence when the tank's commander moves to rescue innocent children and nuns from a nearby orphanage.
As the Battle of the Bulge rages on, with the Nazis repelling the Allied invasion of Germany, an American tank unit gets trapped behind enemy lines. With only hours to go before the bombs of Operation Ardennes Fury fall, the tank's commander makes the incredibly risky decision to rescue an orphanage and the innocent nuns and children inside.
The film serves as a study of poor directing. It's rare for me to feel sorry for people who have enough dough to invest in films, but these poor folks got taken.
The camera work was competent, the lighting design excellent. I did not spot the technical errors, but I am not a WWII history buff, nor do I hold a magnifying glass to CGI work. Rumbling tanks, waves of bombers, and grenades that take 12 seconds to go boom are good enough for me. The set designer should be lauded for using one strip of trees for 8 different scenes.
The actors are good enough, until they try French, German, or Portuguese accents. The director does them a great disservice with simply awful handling of expanded narrative, staging them in inappropriate tableau to deliver melodramatic schlock lines that work the last nerve of the most die-hard Soap fan. Willful suspension of disbelief cannot happen when the audience, every 10 minutes, thinks "I cannot believe those poor actors have to stand there and deliver those stilted clichés."
The film rates moderately on the Zippy the Pinhead Scale: 50 explosions every minute. But, poor Zippy would lose his popcorn during the culminating fight between the good guy and the bad guy. I've seen better knife fights when 5 year old boys get a hold of rubber daggers. Is there such a thing a "C" movie? If not then there should be for Ardennes Fury. I watched the whole thing!! There should be a medal for that!!! There were technical problems with uniforms, equipment, weapons, tanks, vehicles and even jargon. "Copy that" is not the expression that would have been used in 1945. The combat scenes were strange to say the least. Combat scenes seemed to be more an exercise in sharpshooting. The actions of both the Americans and the Nazis were - strange/different. For example people were standing up in the movie where real soldiers would have had their faces in the dirt. There was a scene where a nun had stepped on a mine. What followed was "Everything you don't do with a mine". My only addition is that I found the movie totally unbelievable. 646f9e108c
